RM Auctions, the world’s largest auction house for investment-quality automobiles, returns to Monterey, California August 15-16 for its flagship Monterey auction, held during the world famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance motoring week. A tradition spanning more than 25 years, RM’s 2013 Monterey auction generated an extraordinary $125 million in sales, entering the history books as the highest grossing collector car auction of all time. This year’s event is set to continue the momentum, presenting an elite, handpicked selection of more than 120 blue-chip collector cars.

Building upon RM’s reputation for presenting important and historic Ferraris at auction, the 2014 Monterey auction will feature no less than 26 Prancing Horses led by a multiple award-winning 1964 Ferrari 250 LM used exclusively as a road car by casino mogul William Fisk Harrah in its early life, as well as a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 formerly owned by “King of Cool” Steve McQueen and recently restored by Ferrari Classiche in Maranello. Additional sports and racing highlights include one of the most significant Ford GT40s in existence, a 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster Prototype that served as a Ford/Shelby American development and demonstrator vehicle in the 1960s and was driven by John Whitmore, Dickie Atwood, Ken Miles, and Carol Shelby.

Spanning the full spectrum of automotive history, RM’s Monterey auction also features a number of exceptional early motor cars highlighted by one of America’s original sports car, a 1911 Mercer Model 35-R Raceabout lovingly kept by prominent collector Henry Austin Clark Jr., and offered from single-family ownership since 1949. Also on offer, a 1931 Bentley 8-Litre Sports Coupe Cabriolet, featuring a beautiful one-off, bespoke design by Barker, and the only original two-passenger roadster built on an 8-Litre chassis.
